Where did you complete your schooling from?
St. Patrick's High School, PuneHow were you as a student and what memories do you still cherish from your school days?
I was a bright, disciplined & hardworking student. I was always a topper in my School.I was elected as Head boy of our school & was also selected as Master SSC student.
I remember the annual gatherings we used to put up every year in school. I thoroughly loved independence & republic day functions in our school.
Loved lunch recess where we used to sit together with friends and share our tiffin boxes and also play a lot of games in the remaining time of recess.
I still remember all teachers of my school who not only taught us various subjects but used to take very good care of each and every student of the school. They shaped us into good human beings and responsible citizens of the nation.
What will be your advice to students aspiring for medical education?
Enter the medical field only if you really love it & you thoroughly are determined to become a doctor...This profession demands 100 percent commitment...
This is one of the most satisfying & gratifying professions if you really like it.

Thoroughly enjoyed that learning period as a medical student...I used to always look forward to Ward rounds, emergency duties, and Casualty duty even when I was a medical student.
My residentship in Orthopaedics in Sassoon Hospital for 3 years really made me what I am today...
I was exposed to a lot of clinical work in my residency. Worked sometimes non-stop 36 hours at a stretch...
OPD of 150 patients in a day, OT list of 6 to 8 surgeries on OT day & grand ward rounds of 40 patients in one unit onward day taught me a lot.
There is no shortcut to success, good clinical acumen and personal caring human touch along with treatment is what I learned in my residency...
What tips for success would you like to give to medical students/residents?
Be sincere, hardworking & honest...Always put 100 % effort into whatever you do... Discipline and consistency are what you need.

What do you think is unique about the medical profession compared to other professions?
In the medical profession, you directly deal with human beings and not machines.. you are always in direct contact with many people and get the opportunity to interact with them which I love...Also, we get a chance to reduce the suffering and distress of sick people...
How did you get interested in your specific specialty or field of work?
In my 3 years of orthopedic residency, I observed that 50 percent of patients in OPD had back-related problems (spinal problems).. also I observed that there are a lot of questions in this Spine specialty that are unanswered and need thorough research on it...Also was always fascinated to work around the Spinal cord and nerves and correct spinal deformities
What areas of future research in your field excite you?
Many but to list of few ...Co-relation between MRI imaging & severity of clinical symptoms in patients with low back pain...

Incidence, etiology and clinical course of Adjacent Segment Degeneration in operated spine patients
Neurological recovery after spinal cord injury.

- Hi I am Rupali Shaha. From last few months i was not feeling well and later my pains were unbearable. My treatment was undergoing with Dr.Hrushikesh Mehta. When I was asked for spine surgery I was scared thinking what will happen afterwards. Many questions and thoughts were going on in my mind. But Dr. Hrishikesh Mehta assured me everything will be fine and my pains will be lesser after some days of surgery. I just need to take rest and do exercise as per instructions. Today it is only one month since surgery and I can walk 4 kms a day and my are also reduced effectively. All thanks to Dr Hrishikesh Mehta..
